REVELXP Sees Strong Demand for Game Day Experiences as Fans Fill Stadiums Nationwide

Student Tailgates, Premium Fan Experiences Driving Attendance Beyond Pre-Pandemic Levels  

 

ATLANTA (Nov. 18, 2021) – REVELXP, the national leader in best-in-class fan engagement, today announced it has seen more than a 50 percent increase in participation (vs. 2019 pre-Covid) in premium experiences designed and built for its nearly 70 collegiate and professional team partners. REVELXP helps millions of fans enjoy game day by providing turnkey tailgates which include private full-service gatherings in premier game day locations, pre- and post-game fan hospitality events and VIP clubs, premium fan experiences, in-game suites and club spaces, and much more.

Student Engagement Reaching New Levels  

Motivating students to return has been a foremost priority for universities. While turnkey tailgating has always been a core offering, REVELXP has recently built several university-funded turnkey tailgates that offer an even more memorable student experience:

  • University of Nebraska:  “The Bone Yard” is an on-campus tailgating experience reserved for student groups that includes 60 tents, food and music. It has become so popular that the team’s “Unity Walk” now goes directly through the new student tailgate area.
  • Wake Forest University:  “DEACTOWN Student Tailgate,”located adjacent to Truist Field, is open to student groups for each home game. The Demon Deacons reported their largest increase in student attendance since 2006.

Fan Attendance Back on the Rise

  • Colorado State University:
    • Achieving new records for fan attendance on game days, including for advance sales of turnkey tailgates
    • Set a record for tailgates sold on Oct. 19 against San Jose State; the game marked the fourth largest crowd in stadium history
  • Ole Miss:  Capturing high interest from fans for the field level pre-game and in-game experience, a premium viewing venue in the northeast corner of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium offering top-class hospitality with food and beverage opportunities for groups of 30+.

 

Premium Experiences Attracting Alumni

  • Stanford University:  Offering a newly elevated alumni tailgating experience for visiting team fans, which includes a customized food and beverage menu along with branded décor; 750 fans took part in the tailgating experience at the game vs. Oregon on Oct. 2.
  • University of Oklahoma: Expanded the pre-game presence to include the Alumni Boomer Bash and Champions Club tailgates, where each week thousands of fans enjoy tailgating festivities.

Wake Forest student tailgate puts new twist on game day 

 

In the shadows of Truist Field, more Wake Forest students gathered for pregame tailgating this season than ever before, all on the school’s dime. The space, dubbed the Deactown Student Tailgate, made its debut this year with an assist from REVELxp, the premium hospitality business, and a number of student groups on campus. Wake covered the food, set-up and tented areas.

Deactown helped draw 80% of the school’s total student enrollment of around 5,500. When your small, private institution has the lowest enrollment in the entire Power 5, every body counts in the stadium’s student section. Wake set an all-time high of 4,584 students for the game against NC State.

 

Perhaps only the service academies drew a higher percentage of students to games this season, Wake AD John Currie said. Of course, it didn’t hurt that the Deacons won their first eight games and swept all six at home.

So, how did Wake and REVELxp reimagine game day for its students? It started during the COVID-19 shortened season in 2020 when Wake played before no fans. Currie said they took the time to re-evaluate the space just outside Truist Field, which was dominated by Greek organizations and not the welcoming environment Wake sought.

 

REVELxp put their touch on it with music, food and beverage and a central space that Currie described as more inclusive. Once the game started, the tailgate footprint became part of the ticketed area so that students would be encouraged to stay for the game.

REVELxp building on past success

 

REVELxp CEO Ray DeWeese said the company is working with close to 60 schools on everything from premium seat sales to pregame and postgame hospitality. The Big 12, SEC and Big Ten all have deals with REVELxp to manage hospitality and entertainment around their football championship games.

 

DeWeese, who has overseen the integration of Colonnade Group and Tailgate Guys with other Teall Sports & Entertainment businesses, said that while the ticketing business has had its ups and downs this season, REVELxp has seen solid increases in its premium hospitality sales.

DeWeese: “Just re-upping your season ticket is a trend that’s been on the decline for years. People are looking for a way to consume events and they’re willing to pay a premium for experiences that are a little more tailored and customized for the fan experience.”
